Environment & Wildlife Preservation – Pollinator Project & Wildlife Preservation
The Pollination Project seeks to unleash the goodness in every person. Through a daily practice of generosity and giving, we make seed grants- 365 days a year- to social change agents who seek to spread compassion in their communities and in the world for the benefit of all. The Pollination Project values “compassion consciousness.” Compassion consciousness means that we think through and acknowledge the impact of our choices and our work: from the food we eat, to the questions we ask, to the office supplies we use, to the projects we fund and, ultimately, to the institutions and systems we challenge. As Dr. Cornel West says, “Justice is what love looks like in public.” Compassion consciousness includes lifting up the oppressed, the unseen and the voiceless. Expanding compassion towards ALL life: human and non-human, is our highest intention. – The Pollinator Project.org
For Wildlife Preservation in Canada, the importance of pollinators has become increasingly recognized, as have the alarming declines observed in some species. With over 140,000 species in Canada, over one fifth of these are insects, many of which play a vital role in pollination. Butterflies, flies, moths, beetles and, most importantly bees, pollinate native plants and crops – globally, pollination by bumblebees alone is estimated at be worth several billion dollars per year! However, their conservation has largely been overlooked due to their small size and difficulties with identification. Several pollinating butterfly and bee species have recently been listed as species-at-risk in Canada. Wildlife Preservation Canada’s at-risk pollinator program aims to save these important insects from extinction. Several initiatives are being implemented in collaboration with numerous partners in Canada, the US and overseas. Learn more – Wildlife Preservation.ca
